Vision

The State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC) of Georgia approves and supports Georgia's state charter schools. The SCSC expects the highest quality from our schools, giving students better opportunities than in traditional district schools.

The SCSC seeks to improve public education throughout the state by authorizing high-quality charter schools that provide students with better educational opportunities than they would otherwise receive in traditional district schools.

Launch of the Office of Charter School Compliance

Launch of OCSC

Effective July 1, 2024, the Office of Charter School Compliance (OCSC) transitioned from the Georgia Department of Education to the State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC) in accordance with House Bill 318. The OCSC will collaborate with SCSC staff on matters related to authorizing state charter schools and provide guidance and support to charter school stakeholders statewide. Georgia CSP SE Subgrant Opportunity

The application for CSP subgrant awards for opening, replicating, and expanding charter schools/networks is NOW OPEN! New and replicating Georgia charter may apply for up to $1.5 million in subgrant funds, and expanding charter schools may apply for up to $1 million. A webinar for prospective applicants will be held on Dec 12, 2024.

2024-25 Charter Renewal Process

Who may start a charter school in Georgia?

Existing local schools, private individuals, private organizations, and state and local public entities may organize a charter public school subject to a performance-based contract approved by both the state and local boards of education or by the state board of education alone.
