Head joined SCSC in August 2023. Prior to his current role, he served as Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA). He also served on Governor Brian Kemp’s transition team and as Deputy Campaign Manager for Kemp for Governor in 2018. Earlier in his career, Head worked as a senior congressional staff member for two members of Congress: former Congresswoman Karen Handel and Congressman Austin Scott.

In 2024, Governor Kemp appointed Head to represent Georgia as a Commissioner for the Education Commission of the States (ECS). He was subsequently selected by his peer commissioners to serve as Georgia’s ECS Steering Committee representative.

Head earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Valdosta State University (VSU), where he remains actively engaged as President of the VSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and a Trustee on the VSU Foundation Board.

In addition to his service to Valdosta State University, Head serves as an Advisory Board member for the Alliance Theatre and as a member of the Alliance Theatre Education Committee.

Donovan and his wife, Jansen—Chief of Staff at the Georgia Department of Labor—reside in Woodstock with their two rescue dogs, Brody and Bailey, sibling lab/Australian shepherd mixes. The Heads are active members of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock and are involved in several ministries within their parish and the Archdiocese of Atlanta. They are also Leadership Georgia Alumni (Class of 2025).
