The Office of Charter School Compliance

The Office of Charter School Compliance (OCSC) provides support, guidance, and resources for Georgia charter schools. Functions of the OCSC include, but are not limited to:

• Developing local charter school petitions and guidelines for State Board of Education approval;
• Reviewing charter school petitions in coordination with the Charter Advisory Committee;
• Administering charter school implementation grants awarded to the state;
• Coordinating the evaluation of locally-approved charter schools;
• Producing the charter school annual report required by O.C.G.A. § 20-2-2070; and
• Supporting local charter school authorizers to implement best practices to promote charter school authorization at the local level.

The OCSC and State Board of Education adopted a Local Comprehensive Performance Framework (LCPF) to set clear, quantifiable, rigorous, and attainable goals for charter schools authorized by local school districts (locally-authorized/approved charter schools) in the areas of academic achievement, financial viability, and organizational compliance. A school's performance on the LCPF informs OCSC decision-making over the course of the charter term and at renewal.

Georgia law requires all charter authorizers to undergo an annual evaluation in accordance with the Georgia Principals and Standards for Quality Charter School Authorizing  (PDF, 134.29 KB) .

Georgia law requires all charter schools to submit an annual report to the Georgia Department of Education each year, and the State Board of Education to report to the General Assembly each year on the status of the charter program. The dashboard includes academic, financial, facility, enrollment, and waitlist data for state and locally approved charter schools.
