Georgia Charter School Authorizing Standards
On December 9, 2021, the State Board of Education adopted the Georgia Principles and Standards for Charter School Authorizing, a set of principles designed to evaluate Georgia charter authorizing bodies on quality practices. The standards were developed jointly by the State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC) and the Georgia Dept. of Education (GaDOE) and are informed by both the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) Principles & Standards for Quality Charter School Authorizing and Georgia laws. Prior to adoption, stakeholders were invited to submit feedback and, where appropriate and applicable, updates were included.

Authorizer Evaluation
Georgia law requires all charter authorizers to undergo an annual evaluation adhering to the established set of principles and standards. The evaluation must be conducted by an experienced, third-party provider. As such, the SCSC contracted with NACSA to complete its review. The evaluation for all charter authorizers is based on the standards outlined in the Evaluation Tool below.
