Charter School Program (CSP) State Entity (SE) Grant

The Charter School Program Grant is a $50.8 million State Entity Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education in FY22. This grant supports the creation, expansion, and replication of high-quality public charter schools across Georgia through technical assistance and financial grants.

CSP SE Subgrants for High-Impact Tutoring

The SCSC will award $100,000 CSP SE subgrants to up to ten (10) operational charter schools in Georgia to implement high-impact tutoring programs to support reading and math proficiency.

Application Period: July 22 - August 21, 2026

Eligibility: Operational, authorized schools in Georgia that meet the federal definition of a charter school (see RFA) at the time of this application are eligible to apply.

CSP SE Subgrants for Career & Technical Education (CTAE) Programs

The SCSC will award $500,000 CSP SE subgrants to up to five (5) operational charter high schools in Georgia to implement or expand one or more programs as a part of Georgia’s Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs.

Eligibility: Operational, authorized schools in Georgia that offer at least one high school grade (grades 9-12) during the 2026-27 school year and that meet the federal definition of a charter school (see RFA) at the time of this application are eligible to apply.

CSP SE Subgrants for New, Replication, & Expansion Schools

The SCSC will award CSP SE subgrants to entities with an approved charter from an authorizer in Georgia to support the creation, replication, and expansion of high-quality charter schools.

Application Period: August 27 - September 24, 2026

Eligibility: Only authorized schools meeting the federal definition of charter schools are eligible to apply. Applicants must have received authorization from a Georgia authorizer to open, expand, or replicate a high-quality charter school to be eligible for a subgrant award.

SCSC Categorical Grants

The SCSC offers grants to state charter schools for specific purposes as allowed by SCSC Rule 691-3-.01 Academic, Governance, and Operational Support Grants. Below is a list of current grant opportunities available.

Emergency School Operations Grant

The Emergency School Operations Grant is designed to provide financial support to schools facing unforeseen emergency circumstances, including, but not limited to, natural disasters, acts of terror or war, pandemic, or other exceptional events precipitated by external events causing financial hardship. These events impact the school’s ability to operate and provide students with a safe learning environment. Grant funds are intended to remediate issues caused directly by the emergency circumstances and may not be renewed after the grant term.

Qualifying emergency circumstances do not include the following:

  • Lower-than-expected enrollment/state allotment funding as a result of low enrollment;
  • Financial mistakes, errors, and/or omissions by school staff, contractors, and/or board members, including lack of cybersecurity;
  • Inaccurate financial reporting and/or budgeting; 
  • Lawsuits and/or any legal action; and/or
  • Operational expenses that could be reasonably anticipated, including higher-than-expected personnel expenses or facility repairs due to age and/or wear.

Awards Available: Variable – subject to fund availability

Eligibility: State charter schools with an active charter contract that have experienced unforeseen emergency circumstances impacting the school’s ability to operate and provide students with a safe learning environment are eligible to apply.

School Closure Support Grant

The Closure Support Grant is designed to provide financial support to schools that have surrendered their charter contract or whose charter contract has been terminated by the SCSC Board of Commissioners to continue operations, services for students, or other essential services as identified by the SCSC staff or Board of Commissioners through the end of a school year or other time period determined by the SCSC to minimize harm to students.

Application Period: Ongoing
The application will be sent to schools that meet the eligibility criteria upon request.

Awards Available: Variable – subject to fund availability

Eligibility: State charter schools that have surrendered their charter contract or whose charter contract has been suspended, terminated, or non-renewed by the SCSC Board of Commissioners are eligible to apply.
