Petition Review Timeline

On August 26, 2020, the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) voted to:

  • Resume the FY20 replication/expansion petition cycle;
  • Resume the FY20 start-up petition cycle; and,
  • Initiate the FY21 start-up petition cycle. 

FY20 Replication and Expansion Petition Cycle (resumed):

Effective immediately, the SCSC will begin accepting FY20 replication and expansion applications.  Replication and expansion petitions seeking a 2021-2022 opening are due September 4, 2020.  Applications received after September 4, 2020 will only be considered for a Fall 2022 opening.  SCSC staff shall accept replication and expansion petitions seeking a 2022-2023 opening on a rolling basis through August 1, 2021.

FY20 Petition Cycle (resumed):

FY20 start-up petitioners can choose to either:

Resume the FY20 start-up petition cycle.  The application portal will re-open for petition updates on October 19, 2020.  Updated petitions are due November 20, 2020. Any petition approved as a result of the resumed FY20 petition cycle will require a deferred opening to the 2022-2023 school year.

FY21 Start-Up Petition Cycle:

The FY21 start-up petition cycle will begin October 19, 2020, with the opening of the application portal.  FY21 start-up petitions are due April 9, 2021.
