State Charter Schools Foundation

The State Charter Schools Foundation of Georgia (State Charter Schools Foundation) works in coordination with the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) to benefit the public interest by organizing resources to advance education through the support of charter schools.  The State Charter Schools Foundation actively seeks supplemental revenue and in-kind goods, services, and property to benefit the public through the advancement of charter schools and for other purposes that support the mission of the SCSC,  Specifically, the State Charter Schools Foundation supports activities that promote the development and expansion of charter schools; develops promotes, and disseminates best practices for charter schools; and will provide grants to nonprofit organizations for the charitable purpose of improving education through high-quality charter schools.  The State Charter Schools Foundation does not engage in lobbying or any other political activity.  

The State Charter Schools Foundation's initial activities include raising funds to provide:

  • Planning Grants for nonprofit organizations to develop a charter school petition;
  • Implementation Grants for newly-approved charter schools to assist with start-up costs of a charter school;
  • Capital Cost Grants for operating charter schools to offset facility, technology, and transportation costs; and
  • Dissemination, Expansion, and Replication Grants for existing high-quality schools to serve additional student populations.

Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-2092) authorized the SCSC for establish the State Charter Schools Foundation.  The State Charter Schools Foundation is a separate entity from the SCSC and is governed by its own Board of Directors and Bylaws.

The State Charter Schools Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.  All gifts and donations to the State Charter Schools Foundation are tax-deductible.
