About the OCSC

The Office of Charter School Compliance (OCSC) provides support, guidance, and resources for Georgia charter schools. Functions of the OCSC include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing local charter school petitions and guidelines for State Board of Education approval;
  • Reviewing charter school petitions in coordination with the Charter Advisory Committee;
  • Administering charter school implementation grants awarded to the state;
  • Coordinating the evaluation of locally-approved charter schools;
  • Producing the charter school annual report required by O.C.G.A. § 20-2-2070; and
  • Supporting local charter school authorizers to implement best practices to promote charter school authorization at the local level.

Locally-Approved Charter School Accountability

Locally Approved Charter School Accountability

The OCSC and State Board of Education adopted a Local Comprehensive Performance Framework (LCPF) to set clear, quantifiable, rigorous, and attainable goals for charter schools authorized by local school districts (locally approved charter schools) in the areas of academic achievement, financial viability, and organizational compliance. A school's performance on the LCPF informs OCSC decision-making over the course of the charter term and at renewal.

Academic Accountability

The academic portion of the LCPF seeks to answer the following fundamental question:
Is the educational program offering students a better educational opportunity than they would otherwise receive in traditional district schools?
